The position as Deputy Director of the Institute of Molecular Virology and Cell Biology (IMVZ) at FLI’s headquarters Greifswald-Insel Riems is to be filled. Currently, the department has ten research groups with expert skills in virology, cell biology, advanced imaging and proteomics. More information is available at www.fli.de/en. 

 

Profile:   

The IMVZ conducts research on the molecular characterization of viral pathogens in farm animals and zoonoses and provides advice to the Federal Ministry on these issues. The focus is on the functional characterization of viral proteins and the elucidation of the molecular interactions between pathogens and hosts. The post holder takes on administrative tasks in the IMVZ, participates in the development of research concepts at the IMVZ and strengthens the MS-based proteomics work area by setting up a laboratory for proteomics and systems biology. It designs and implements infection-biological research projects with a proteomic approach and participates in the operation of the MS platforms located in the IMVZ. The active promotion of collegial cooperation with the other specialist institutes of the FLI as well as participation in national and international committees is also an important task.

 

Requirements:

We are looking for a highly qualified scientist with many years of experimental experience in the field of MS-based proteomics and systems biology. In addition, we expect relevant experience in leading an own work group or scientific unit as well as qualifications that can be proven through habilitation or equivalent academic achievements.

Skills in the team-oriented leadership of employees, in the management of interdisciplinary research projects, in the acquisition of third-party funds. We expect excellent English language skills as well as advanced basic knowledge of the German language. Non-German speaking applicants are expected to acquire and prove adequate German language skills within two years.

Requirements for the position are: university degree, doctorate, teaching ability and additional academic achievements which are usually provided by a junior professorship, by a habilitation or equivalent degrees.

 

The successful applicant will either be employed as Federal civil servant (Bundesbeamte) or as employee based on the Collective Agreement for Public Services (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst Bund – TVöD Ost), depending on the requirements met. Remuneration for this position is based on the German Federal Remuneration System, remuneration grade B1, with a basic annual salary of € 85,400.
