The Institute for Virology is currently seeking a

Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f/d)

(pay grade: E13 TV-L 100 % / limited)

to join the group of PD Dr. Wibke Bayer at the earliest possible time point. The pay grade classification depends on the personal and collective legal pre-requisites. The position is third-party funded for the duration of 36 months.

The group of PD Dr. Wibke Bayer has been working for more than ten years on the development of adenovirus-based vectors for immunization. In a project newly funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), we aim to develop novel immunization vectors based on different human adenovirus-based types, which will be selected based on an in depth characterization of their immunogenicity and seroprevalence. For selected adenovirus types, we will establish vector systems that allow rapid production of new vectors with different transgenes, which will be tested in murine infection models for immunogenicity and induction of protection. The goal of the project is the identification of especially useful adenovirus types for vaccine development and the establishment and evaluation of adenovirus vectors based on these types.

Your profile: You have a diploma or masters degree in Biology, Biochemistry or a related subject, and have acquired or are about to acquire a doctorate degree in the field of Virology or Immunology. Experience in cultivation of adenoviruses and in producing adenovirus-based vectors, in molecular biology techniques including PCR and cloning of large and unstable DNA sequences and / or in the analysis of humoral and cellular immune responses using ELISA, neutralization assay and high parameter flow cytometry would be of advantage. You have the qualification, experience and interest to perform immunization studies in mice. You like to work in a team, are open minded and a good communicator, and you enjoy guiding students in the lab.

The University Hospital Essen is an equal opportunity employer. Female scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. The participation in secondary employment depends on the „Hochschulnebentätigkeitsverordnung“ of North-Rhine Westphalia.
