In the Institute of Molecular Virology and Cell Biology (IMVZ) at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute, Insel Riems, the position as Scientific Director (m/f/d) and Head of the group for Integrative Cyto- and Infection Biology is to be filled. Currently, the department has ten research groups with expert skills in virology, cell biology, advanced imaging and proteomics. More information is available at

The IMVZ conducts research on the molecular characterization of viral pathogens in farm animals and zoonoses. In order to strengthen the cell biological expertise, the post holder assumes responsibility for the conception and implementation of cell biological projects and coordinates cross-working group-wide cell biological oriented research approaches. This includes, for example, the implementation of modern cell biological screening and analysis methods (such as CRISPR-Cas or siRNA-based methods) and the inclusion of expertise established at the IMVZ or FLI (e.g. mass spectrometry, nucleic acid analysis and imaging methods). In addition to cell culturebased approaches, studies on the molecular cell biological key functions of virus pathogenesis in animals and, if applicable, in organoid systems are to be carried out. Close cooperation with national and international research facilities and institutions in the field is expected.
