27/08/2019
Freiburg/Berlin, August 2019 - With Society of Virology e.V. (GfV), another medical society with a strong research and practical focus has become a member of the Association for Applied Hygiene (VAH). This further expands the pooling of expertise and strengths in the field of applied hygiene, the central concern of the VAH umbrella organization.
The experts of the GfV currently deal with numerous technical issues of virology in 14 Committees , including the GfV Commission for Virus Disinfection. Close and constructive cooperation between the GfV and VAH on innovative research topics, but also in the area of education, training and continuing education, is intended to contribute to quality assurance and to even more effective prevention and control of viral diseases in all areas of human and veterinary medicine. Professor Dr. med. Hartmut Hengel, President of Society of Virology (GfV) emphasised that GfV and VAH clearly benefit from each other as a result of their complementary expertise and long experience: "Many aspects of virus inactivation and disinfection are highly topical and undergoing change, for example with regard to nosocomial viral infections, i.e. those acquired in clinics or practices", said Hengel.
The aim is to effectively prevent viral infections and better protect patients and staff. "In the future, there will be a need for even more evidence-based recommendations for practical work in clinics, laboratories and companies. That is why we are looking for an exchange with the VAH," says Hengel. Other scientific member societies in the VAH include the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hygiene und Mikrobiologie e.V. (German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Krankenhaushygiene e.V. (German Society for Hospital Hygiene), and the Gesellschaft für Hygiene, Umweltmedizin und Präventivmedizin e.V. (Society for Hygiene, Environmental Medicine and Preventive Medicine).
