Society of Virology mourns the loss of its esteemed member, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rolf Hilgenfeld, who passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 71. With his passing, we have lost an outstanding structural biologist and virologist whose scientific excellence and personal dedication have left a lasting legacy.

The Society of Virology extends its deepest sympathy to his family, colleagues, former employees and all those who have accompanied him.
