Mourning for Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rolf Hilgenfeld

The Society of Virology mourns the loss of its esteemed member Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rolf Hilgenfeld, who passed away on June 19, 2025 at the age of 71. With his passing, we have lost an outstanding structural biologist and virologist who will leave a lasting mark through his scientific excellence and personal commitment.
The Society of Virology extends its deepest sympathy to his family, colleagues, former employees and all those who have accompanied him.
