The Faculty’s Section of Fundamental Medicine hosts the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Medicine. This department studies the cellular and molecular biology of pathogens and their interactions with the infected host. These pathogens include bacteria, viruses and parasites.
In this context, in order to establish a center of excellence in genomics of intracellular infectious diseases, while strengthening synergies between research and the clinic and with a dynamic of translational research, the Faculty is opening a position of:
Full Professor or Associate Professor in Genomics of Intracellular Infectious Diseases – Chair of Excellence
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Establish and maintain a research program of excellence and international renown supported by highly competitive external funding in order to elucidate the complex biology of human pathogens, their interactions with the host, as well as the mechanisms of immune evasion.
- Establish links between basic research and clinical applications through integrated approaches, applied to pathogen monitoring, epidemiology, diagnostics, vaccine development or the discovery of new treatments.
- Contribute significantly to the teaching of systems biology applied to infectious diseases, at the undergraduate (bachelor’s and master’s) and postgraduate (PhD) levels.
- Leading a research team.
- Choice of position, full professor or associate professor, will be determined by academic age and the production and impact of scientific publications.
REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD ou MD-PhD.
- High expertise, internationally recognized, in the field of functional genomics, systems biology applied to infectious diseases (virology, parasitology), and advanced molecular biology.
- In-depth knowledge of innovative technologies and multi-omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics).
- Recipient of highly competitive research funds and author of publications in international peer-reviewed journals of excellence.
- Ability for interdisciplinary collaboration with other research groups in the Faculty and at the HUG.
