It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the international conference of DFG-funded collaborative research centre TRR 179 "Determinants and dynamics of elimination vs. persistence of hepatitis virus infection" in Freiburg on May 30/31, 2022.

We hope that you enjoyed the atmosphere of the symposium 2018 and had an exciting and productive meeting. Following up on this we are organising the next international symposium on "Viral hepatitis and beyond: from basic science to cure". The conference wants to highlight insides into viral replication, innate defence, and anti-viral adaptive immunity in the context of viral hepatitis. The target audience are basic and clinical scientists, therefore sessions include basic and clinical, cell biology, virology, and immunology. In our research consortium TRR 179, basic and clinical scientists examine and investigate hepatitis virus infection and persistence. We use integrative approaches that account for the interplay of the various immune cells involved in antiviral defence, the viral factors, the liver microenvironment and its alterations induced by viral infection and immune responses to get further insights. We are convinced that our unique network will not only lead to novel findings into the immune system, but also guide the development of new therapies for the cure of chronic viral hepatitis.
We and are happy to already invite you to join us during our conference in Freiburg and to share and discuss latest insights into hepatitis virus research with you.
